Disk Defragmenter

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows program designed to increase computer speed by rearranging files stored on a hard drive to occupy contiguous storage locations. Disk fragmentation occures when items are deleted because they leave blank spaces on the hard drive.
Defragmenting a disk minimizes search time for the hard disk head, which reduces the time it takes to read files from and write files to a hard drive. Beginning with Windows XP, Disk Defragmenter also reduced system startup times.
Disk Defragmenter runs automatically with Windows 7, but you can also defragment your hard disk manually by running the program from the start menu.
